ABOUT THE ARTIST
Denita Benyshek is a visual artist whose work connects deeply with the rhythms of the natural world. She holds a BFA from Wichita State University and an MFA in painting from the University of Washington. Her formal training is complemented by a profound connection to mysticism, beauty, and Slavic-inspired concepts of nonlinear time and dreamlike space.
She has received an artist-in-residence grant from the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming and a fullscholarship to the Pilchuck Glass School. Years spent teaching in the remote Alaskan bush greatly influenced her intuitive, layered style—rooted in the wild, contemplative, and sacred.
In 2022, Benyshek returned to Wichita with her family and accepted a residency with Botanical Gardens through the Fisch Haus OpenStudios project. Her garden, cultivated as both a physical and spiritual refuge, became the foundation for her Sacred Geometry series—meditative works that blur the lines between poetry, painting, and prayer. Her pieces are held in collections including the University of Washington Medical Center and the Glass Museum in Denmark. She is currently completing a book of poetry and garden paintings.
