ABOUT THE ARTIST

Derek Sakala, known online as derekie, is a 19‑year‑old mangaka from the Bronx and creator of the ongoing webcomic INSTINCTS (eight chapters published on Webtoon and Manga Plus). Drawing digitally—right on his phone—Derek has been creating manga since age 9, using his art to express emotion and resilience. His story-driven creation aims to inspire and uplift others, just as manga helped him through hard times.
