Darkseid Extra Bold Roast by Victor Spieles

$50.00

Darkseid Extra Bold Roast by Victor Spieles
Pen & Ink with Liquitex Acrylic Paints
Troy, Michigan, USA

Inspiration
Where Gotham’s grind meets cosmic villainy, NYC style. “Darkseid Extra Bold Roast” is a humorous collision of cultural icons: the iconic New York City blue-and-white coffee cup and Jack Kirby’s ominous DC Comics villain, Darkseid. The idea came while Victor was working on two unrelated pieces—one about President Obama, the other a Habesha Coffee Ceremony. But the image of Darkseid kept peeking out from under a pile of printouts… almost demanding his own tribute. This piece is part satire, part love letter to New York’s spirit, where bold coffee meets bold ambition.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Victor Spieles is a Michigan-based illustrator, copywriter, and creative spirit who rediscovered painting during the solitude of COVID lockdowns. A Detroit native, Victor credits his early exposure to local artists and museums—and a fever dream featuring the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu—for guiding him back to his artistic roots.

He studied at Macomb Community College, California Institute of the Arts, and the Center for Creative Studies, earning his B.A. in Illustration in 1997. Today, he balances his day job as an art director with nights and weekends spent painting vibrant, character-driven works full of energy, storytelling, and humor.
