ABOUT THE ARTIST
Carol Cohn is a self-taught artist based in Bloomfield, New Jersey. After years in the advertising industry and navigating personal transitions, she turned to drawing to find her voice. Her work includes two notable series: The Art of Divorce, which reflects the emotional terrain of separation, and Fairy Tales, Myths, and Other Dangerous Artifacts, which critiques romantic myths passed down to women.
Carol works primarily in graphite, drawn to its intimacy and precision. Her creative process is often fueled by coffee—a ritual that’s deeply tied to memory and community. She first discovered the importance of “the bean” while working at a gourmet store in Pittsburgh during college. She favors dark roasts with fragrant, oily beans, freshly ground and usually taken black (with the occasional splash of oat milk).
Her favorite coffee spots include TREND and BLUESTONE in Montclair, where she enjoys connecting with friends over a great cup. Hosting is part of her nature—she always brews a fresh pot when guests visit her studio.
