How Jim Lively’s “A Second Cup of Coffee” Inspired the Coffee Table Art Book

‘A Second Cup of Coffee’ Fine Art Print

It all started with a second cup of coffee.

I was working as a marketing director at Artspan, looking at artwork all day. You start to notice what you stop on and what you move past quickly.

Then I came across A Second Cup of Coffee by Jim Lively.

I loved it immediately.

No analysis. It just worked. The kind of piece you don’t scroll past.

That moment stayed with me.

It got me thinking about coffee in a different way. Not just as a subject, but as something artists interpret in their own way.

From there, I started looking for more work like it.
That turned into the call to artists.
And eventually, the Coffee Table Art Book.

Jim Lively is an artist, author, and filmmaker. His work has been shown widely, and his films and writing have received a number of awards.

Lately I’ve also enjoyed following what he’s been sharing, especially the music he’s’s playing on his turntable. It gives a little window into how he thinks and creates.

He also recently released a new novel, Hazy Shade, which you can see here:

I’m also really grateful to Jim for his support of the book and for allowing his work to be included. It means a lot, especially knowing this piece is where it all started.

it always comes back to that first piece. I loved it at first sight.
